Vietnam salary guide (2026)
There is no single “average salary” for Vietnam that means much on its own: pay turns on role, seniority, sector and region. This guide collects 2026 salary ranges from named, dated surveys — ITviec for technology, Navigos Group for executives, and Manpower and Robert Walters for pay-rise forecasts — then sets them against the statutory minimum wage and the roughly 23.5% employer on-cost that turns a gross salary into a total hiring cost. Every figure is attributed and dated; we publish no number we cannot cite to a named source.

Get a quoteThe salary ranges below are third-party survey observations, attributed and dated — not EOR Vietnam's own data, and not a promise of what any particular hire will cost. Statutory costs (the minimum wage, the 23.5% employer on-cost and tax) are separate and sourced to the law in force. This is general information, not legal, tax or recruitment advice; confirm the current figure for a specific role before you rely on it.
Is there an average salary in Vietnam?
Not a single meaningful one. Vietnam has no official salary register, and pay turns on role, seniority, sector and region, so one “average salary” figure tells you little. This guide instead gives dated ranges from named surveys and points you to the full published guides for the rest.
The most detailed commercial salary guides — Navigos Group, Manpower, Adecco and Source of Asia among them — keep their full role-by-role tables behind a download. That leaves a specific, honest subset that can be cited: ITviec's self-reported technology medians, the executive top-end that reached the press, and the pay-rise percentages each firm publishes openly. Read every figure as a dated observation from a named survey, not as a fixed market rate.
Three habits keep a benchmark useful: treat a survey median as the middle of a wide spread rather than a going rate; check the edition date, since the technology survey refreshes about twice a year and the general guides land each December to March; and keep salary separate from cost, because the statutory on-cost of about 23.5% sits on top of every number below. Figures are in Vietnamese dong, with US-dollar equivalents approximate at about ₫26,000 to US$1 as of October 2026.
What do executives and managers earn in Vietnam?
Executive and senior-management pay is the one slice of the general market with openly reported figures. Navigos Group's Talent Guide 2026 — its 2026 Salary & Labour Market Report, released in January 2026 on a first-hand survey of more than 250 businesses and 1,600 employees — reports that C-suite monthly pay in many industries exceeds ₫300 million, with the single highest band around ₫527 million (about US$20,000) for a chief executive in high-tech agriculture.2 The detailed mid-market tables are in the gated report; the figures below are the top-of-range points that reached the press in February 2026.
| Role or sector | Monthly (gross) | Approx. USD |
|---|---|---|
| CEO, high-tech agriculture (highest reported) | up to ₫527m | ≈ US$20,000 |
| CEO, food & beverage / FMCG | up to ₫461m | ≈ US$17,700 |
| Director, banking | up to ₫386m | ≈ US$14,800 |
| CTO / head of engineering | up to ₫274m | ≈ US$10,500 |
| AI / machine-learning specialist (under 5 yrs) | ₫100–145m | ≈ US$3,800–5,600 |
| General management (full range) | ₫100–500m | ≈ US$3,800–19,200 |
“m” = million dong per month. Figures reach us through VnExpress International's February 2026 report of the Navigos Talent Guide 2026; the full guide's tables are gated. Dollar equivalents are approximate at about ₫26,000 to US$1. 2
Two patterns stand out. General management pay spans a wide band — roughly ₫100–500 million a month — so a single “manager” figure means little without the sector and company size attached.2 And specialist technical leadership now rivals the C-suite: Navigos puts data, AI and machine-learning specialists with under five years' experience at ₫100–145 million a month, a premium for scarce skills rather than seniority.2
How fast are salaries rising in Vietnam in 2026?
Where the absolute bands are gated, the pay-rise forecasts are not — and they are the more useful planning number for a budget. Manpower Vietnam's Salary Guide 2026, published in December 2025 and built on more than 700 positions across 12 sectors, forecasts the 2026 increases below.3
| Sector | Forecast 2026 pay rise |
|---|---|
| Logistics & supply chain | 10–20% |
| Technology & digital | 10–15% |
| Hospitality, travel & tourism | 3–5% |
| Construction & real estate | 3–5% |
| Most executive roles | 1–5% |
| Banking (chief executive) | 7–12% |
Forecast annual increases, not current salary levels. 3
Robert Walters' Salary Survey 2026 points the same way, expecting overall 2026 increments of 15–25% — and specifically 15–25% for AI, data and fintech specialists against 5–15% for general software roles. Its sentiment reading is just as telling for anyone budgeting a retention offer: about a third of professionals say they would seek a rise of more than 25% when changing jobs, and compensation is the single biggest driver of job satisfaction.4 The headline for 2026, across both firms, is a skills-led market: scarce technical capability commands double-digit rises while broad, non-specialist roles move only a few per cent.
How much do software developers earn in Vietnam?
Technology is the one role family with a named, dated survey that discloses pay by seniority. ITviec's IT Salary & Recruitment Market Report 2025-2026 is based on an online survey of 1,839 IT professionals, HR leaders and CxOs run between May and November 2025; its figures are self-reported gross monthly medians.1 The clearest signal in the data is how steeply developer pay climbs with experience — so much so that an “average IT salary” is close to useless without the seniority attached.
| Developer role | Entry (<1 yr) | Mid (3–4 yrs) | Senior (>8 yrs) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Back-end developer | ₫12.4m | ₫30.1m | ₫54.9m |
| Front-end developer | — | ₫30.8m | ₫46.3m |
| Full-stack developer | ₫10.1m | ₫34.5m | ₫44.8m |
| Mobile developer | ₫14.15m | ₫29.05m | ₫45.7m |
| Embedded engineer | ₫21.4m | ₫28.4m | ₫60.65m |
“m” = million dong per month; self-reported survey medians, rounded as published. A dash means ITviec did not report that cell. ITviec separately reports an overall full-stack median of about ₫37 million a month — its own reported figure, not an average of the bands above. 1
Beyond individual contributors, ITviec's 2025-2026 report puts median monthly pay at about ₫101 million for a CTO or CIO, around ₫52 million for a tech lead, about ₫50 million for an IT or project manager, roughly ₫41 million for a data analyst or scientist, and about ₫31 million for a QA engineer — all self-reported medians, as of October 2026.1 If you are staffing an engineering team, the role-specific picture is set out in our guide to hiring developers in Vietnam through an EOR, which pairs these bands with the work-permit route for foreign specialists.
Do salaries differ between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang?
In practice yes: pay tends to be highest in Ho Chi Minh City, with Hanoi somewhat lower and Da Nang lower still, tracking the cost of living and the depth of each talent pool. But we do not publish city-by-city salary figures, because no named, dated survey breaks professional pay down by city — the ITviec table is role and seniority only — and we will not invent a differential to fill the gap. City comparisons that quote precise percentages almost always trace back to unsourced commercial blogs.
What does differ by location, as a matter of law rather than market, is the statutory floor and contribution base, which is set by where the employing entity operates. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City city centres sit in Region I; central Da Nang is Region II, not Region I — a common mistake.5 For the local hiring picture in each, see EOR in Ho Chi Minh City, EOR in Hanoi and EOR in Da Nang.
What does a salary actually cost an employer in Vietnam?
Gross salary is only part of the bill. On top of it, a Vietnamese employer carries about 23.5% in statutory contributions — 17.5% social insurance, 3% health insurance, 1% unemployment insurance and a 2% trade-union fee — while a further 10.5% is withheld from the employee's own pay.6 For a foreign hire there is no unemployment insurance, so the employer on-cost is about 22.5%. Social and health insurance are charged only on salary up to ₫50,600,000 a month, so most of the employer on-cost stops rising above that ceiling.6
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Gross monthly salary | 40,000,000 |
| Statutory employer on-cost (23.5%) | 9,400,000 |
| Total employer cost (excl. EOR fee) | 49,400,000 |
Illustrative only, for a Vietnamese national on a salary below the ₫50,600,000 contribution cap; a higher salary would show the cap biting. See the full payroll and on-cost breakdown and run your own numbers with the employer-cost calculator. 6
So a salary benchmark is a starting point, not the budget. A ₫40 million offer is really a ₫49.4 million monthly cost before any EOR fee, and personal income tax is then withheld from the employee's side of the same gross — see how Vietnam's 2026 personal income tax works. Build the on-cost into every range here before you compare offers.
What is the salary floor under any Vietnam offer?
No lawful salary can sit below the regional minimum wage, which is the hard floor beneath every range above. For 2026 it runs from ₫3,700,000 a month in Region IV to ₫5,310,000 in Region I, effective 1 January 2026 under Decree 293/2025/ND-CP.5 The region is fixed by where the employer operates, not where the employee lives, and contributions must be based on at least that floor. The minimum wage matters for professional hiring too, because it sets the contribution base and, in Region I, the ₫106,200,000 unemployment-insurance cap. The detail by region and city is in our 2026 minimum-wage guide.
How does EOR Vietnam help you benchmark and budget?
We are an employer of record, not a salary-data vendor, so we will not sell you a benchmark report — but when you are costing a real hire we give you a sourced pay range for the role from the named surveys above, set against the full employer cost in writing. Each estimate shows the gross salary, the roughly 23.5% statutory on-cost line by line, and our own fee as a separate item, all in Vietnamese dong.
That fee is a flat US$149 per employee per month for a Vietnamese national — the same figure regardless of salary, seniority, role, location in Vietnam or headcount, as of October 2026. It is not a percentage of payroll, so a higher benchmark never inflates our charge. Foreign nationals who need a Vietnamese work permit are quoted separately. There are no setup, onboarding, offboarding, contract or payslip fees and no hidden fees; gross salary, the statutory contributions and any statutory or agreed payments are passed through at cost. A refundable security deposit equal to two months of the employee's employment cost — gross salary plus statutory employer contributions — is held for the engagement and returned at the end, less any unpaid amounts. Questions people ask
What is the average salary in Vietnam in 2026?
There is no single official “average salary” for Vietnam that is meaningful on its own, because pay depends heavily on role, seniority, sector and region. We publish only dated ranges attributed to named surveys such as ITviec, Navigos Group and Manpower. The one figure fixed by law is the minimum wage: ₫5,310,000 a month in Region I for 2026.
How much do software developers earn in Vietnam?
According to ITviec's IT Salary & Recruitment Market Report 2025-2026, median developer pay rises steeply with seniority — an entry-level engineer earns a fraction of a senior one, and fields such as embedded and back-end pay the most at the top. These are self-reported survey medians; the sourced table above gives the figures by role and experience level.
Do salaries differ between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City?
In practice pay tends to be highest in Ho Chi Minh City, with Hanoi somewhat lower and Da Nang lower still. We do not publish city-by-city salary figures, because no named, dated survey breaks professional pay down by city and we will not invent one. The statutory minimum wage does differ by region, however, and is set by where the employer operates.
What is the total cost of a salary to an employer in Vietnam?
Add about 23.5% to gross salary for the statutory employer contributions — 17.5% social insurance, 3% health, 1% unemployment and a 2% trade-union fee; about 22.5% for a foreign hire, who pays no unemployment insurance. Contributions are capped on salary above ₫50,600,000 a month. EOR Vietnam's own fee is a flat US$149 per employee per month for Vietnamese nationals.
